My philosophy about teaching is simple. I echo Madeline Hunter’s timeless insight: “Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care!” While some might see this as sentimental, it reflects a powerful truth: actual academic growth often begins with connection. Students sometimes face challenges that extend far beyond the classroom, and at times, the lessons we teach compete with the personal struggles they carry with them. What is missing in some classrooms is not content—it is connection.
The research is clear: when students feel genuinely seen and respected, not just as learners but as individuals, they are more likely to engage and less likely to resist. I also know that educators are not looking for the newest trend or yet another slickly marketed program.
What they need are fundamental strategies—rooted in research and validated by experience—that are effective. I stand firmly behind providing teachers with usable, effective practices that support their unique and demanding work.
I understand that today’s classrooms reflect incredible diversity—of experiences, cultures, abilities, and needs. The old “one size fits all” approach no longer applies, and I am committed to honoring the adaptive, responsive role that teachers play every day.
